E-04 · Raffia
USD 168USD only · tax shown at checkout
The fine raffia braid from A-05 with the structure removed, so a hat this closely woven can still be packed. It is the most expensive raffia that folds, and the compromise is a brim that will never sit perfectly flat.
How open the weave is
Close raffia braid at a high row count — narrow gaps, visible only against strong light.
Braid woven in Madagascar · hand-blocked in Gata de Gorgos, Spain.
Adding counts the badge up in the header. Nothing opens over the page and nothing is charged until you review the order.

Straw is a plant
Printed before you buy, not after you complain. A hat that cannot carry all four lines does not go on sale here.
Raffia goes brittle in dry heat. Left in a parked car it will crack along the braid; mist it lightly a few times a season and it stays supple.
Strong summer sun lifts the colour by a shade or two over one season. That is expected, not a fault.
Soaked or squashed, the brim will wave. Mist it, press it flat between two cloths and let it dry on a flat surface.
The braid is open. Held up to the light you will see daylight straight through the gaps between the ribbons.
Never leave it in a parked car or against a radiator. Dry heat is what makes straw crack.
A light mist of water two or three times a season keeps the fibres supple. Do not soak it.
Mist lightly, press flat between two cloths and leave it on a flat surface overnight.
Store it flat or coiled loosely — never leave it coiled tight for weeks at a time.
