Woven from a closer raffia braid that coils cleanly instead of folding. Rolling distributes the stress along the braid rather than concentrating it at one crease, which is why this hat comes back to shape and a folded one argues about it.

How open the weave is

Close raffia braid — narrow gaps, less light than our standard raffia.

Braid woven in Madagascar · hand-blocked in Gata de Gorgos, Spain.

Head circumference

Measure just above the ears, level across the forehead. Between two ranges, take the larger.

Adding counts the badge up in the header. Nothing opens over the page and nothing is charged until you review the order.

Straw is a plant

Four things
this hat does.

Printed before you buy, not after you complain. A hat that cannot carry all four lines does not go on sale here.

  • Cracking

Raffia goes brittle in dry heat. Left in a parked car it will crack along the braid; mist it lightly a few times a season and it stays supple.

  • Fading

Strong summer sun lifts the colour by a shade or two over one season. That is expected, not a fault.

  • Reshaping

Soaked or squashed, the brim will wave. Mist it, press it flat between two cloths and let it dry on a flat surface.

  • Weave gaps

The braid is open. Held up to the light you will see daylight straight through the gaps between the ribbons.

Care

  • Keep it out of dry heat

Never leave it in a parked car or against a radiator. Dry heat is what makes straw crack.

  • Mist, do not soak

A light mist of water two or three times a season keeps the fibres supple. Do not soak it.

  • Reshaping

Mist lightly, press flat between two cloths and leave it on a flat surface overnight.

  • Storage

Store it flat or coiled loosely — never leave it coiled tight for weeks at a time.
